given the name of this blog, “stars, stripes, & swords,” I was obligated to give my opinion on this movie.
I was pre-disposed to dislike "captain america: brave new world" because of the anti-american sentiments of lead actor anthony mackie. (but then again I also disliked the anti-americanism of previous captain america actor chris evans as well.)
in a nod to victim ideology and identity politics, the stakes character isaiah bradley (played by carl lumbly) is painted as such a long-suffering saint that I knew that before long he would be unfairly prosecuted yet again.
if bradley represents blacks and other "oppressed minorities," american president ross (played by harrison ford) represents oppressive america, or at least the "military industrial complex" faction of it. he is the one who imprisons (and thus inadvertently creates) hidden villain sam sterns.
despite all this, I enjoyed "captain america: brave new world" well enough, due to the CGI action scenes.
